About Dr. Moini

I grew up in California and headed north to UC Davis for undergrad, where I majored in physiology — an early sign that how the body actually works was going to stick with me. After college, I spent four years in research and completed a master's in physiology at Georgetown University, before heading to medical school at the Medical College of Virginia (Virginia Commonwealth University) in Richmond.

I finished my residency in internal medicine at University Hospitals of Cleveland in 2013, and Cleveland gave me more than a medical education — it's also where I met my wife, Dr. Megan Moini. Today I practice at Emerald Direct Primary Care, the direct primary care practice Megan founded and built from the ground up.

Exercise and nutrition have pulled at me for as long as I can remember, even before medicine gave me the vocabulary for why. Once my training wrapped up, I started running more seriously, and over the years that grew into multiple half-Ironman triathlons and a long string of endurance road and trail races. Somewhere in the middle of all that — and, if I'm being honest, somewhere around the point I started feeling the effects of aging on my own training — I came to really appreciate that a good program is never just about the running. It's nutrition, strength, mobility, and recovery, all carrying real weight together, not one thing doing all the work.

Even Split Coaching exists because of a pattern I kept running into, both in clinic and in my own running community: so many people wanted to start running, gave it a genuine shot, and then got stuck — running the same short distance week after week, unsure what was actually holding them back or how to move past it. That gap, between wanting to start and knowing how, is exactly where I wanted to help.

My wife and I have called Cleveland home since 2009. We live in Shaker Heights with our three kids and two dogs — and most mornings, you'll still find me out the door for a run before the day gets going.
